We’ve succeeded in hunting anymore importation of the virus into our country and i thank the overwhelming majority of you for the hearing to the good hygiene and social distancing protocols announced in my first broadcast.

However, prevailing circumstances means restricted measures have to be put in place to contain and hold the spread of the virus within our country, especially in Accra, Tema, Kumasi, Kasua.

Ghana’s health service identified these areas as the hotspot of the infection, and in doing this, we cannot afford to copy blindly and to do all the things some other world developed countries are doing, there is no one side fixed all approach to this pandemic. We have a unique situation in our country and we must take it to our account in dealing with the disease.

These affected areas, and indeed all other regions, have designated isolation and treatment centers for handling suspected and confirmed cases, as well as the selection of facilities for mandatory quarantine and intensive public health education and community awareness of social distancing in hand washing will be carried out.

Let me also retrain that the ban on public gatherings,
Religious or Social gatherings is still in form. Anyone irrespective of status, Religion, or Ethnicity who’s found to flattening them will be dealt with fully in accordance with the law.

The security services have been unclothed with the necessary power to enforce this measures and i assure you they would do so responsibly but without fear of failure, ill will or menace.

I urge all of you to be patient with these additional measures as they are carried out in the interest of all of us and hopefully only for a short time. These additional measures together with those earlier announced are what will help us defeat the Corona virus and we must be united in our determination and efforts to overcome this trial.

We are aware that there will be discomfort and difficulties for all of us over the next couple of weeks but as a responsive government we will continue to implement bold measures to maintain the impact of the Corona virus on business and households and to ensure the job losses are minimized. We are in this together and the government will stand by you.
